In 2010, an intense battle unfolded between Hermès and LVMH. In essence, as Hermès steadfastly resisted relinquishing its family legacy, LVMH succeeded in acquiring 23.2% of Hermès. This conflict traces back to 1993 when Hermès went public on the Paris Stock Exchange, a daring move for a family business. LVMH's head, Arnault, employed a complex strategy, discreetly acquiring Hermès shares through three different banks, particularly during the 2007/8 crisis. In 2010, Arnault surprised the world by announcing that LVMH held almost 15% of Hermès. The conflict seemed to conclude in 2013 when LVMH received a $10.4 million fine, officially divesting Hermès shares. The 23% stake, valued at $7.5 billion, was distributed among LVMH shareholders and institutional investors. Consequently, Arnault and his family now own less than 10% of Hermès.

We welcomed all of our guests at Harvey Kitchen and Bar, a great restaurant at the edge of the city center in Maastricht. It's a great place where you can enjoy lunch and dinner, and they also have amazing cocktails. It's a great spot for a date with friends!

During an Air France flight to London in 1984, the cabin crew upgraded the seat of a 34 year old woman, Jane Birkin. On her new seat, she happened to sit next to the artistic director and chairman of Hermès, Jean-Louis Dumas. Story goes that during the flight, everything fell out of Jane Birkin’s bag and Dumas offered to design her a new bag that would fit all of her stuff. In an interview in 2012 she said: “When everything fell out of whatever bag I had, the man next to me said, “you should have one with pockets.” I said: “the day Hermès makes one with pockets I will have that.” And he said: “but I am Hermès, and I will put pockets in for you.”’ Dumas drew the design on the sick bag and the rest is history.
